Lindy DeMaria is the parent of two young children in the Forest Hills School District. DeMaria is also a graduate of the district and said she's troubled by the school board's vote Wednesday opposing the use of race-based or identity-based training and teaching.The board passed the "Resolution to Create a Culture of Kindness and Equal Opportunity for All Students and Staff," at the meeting. "There are certainly some ugly things going on right now not representative of this community,” DeMaria said.One board member who voted against the resolution is Dr. Leslie Rasmussen. Rasmussen said the board’s 3-2 vote is already impacting the search for a new superintendent.“Just today we have three finalists and just today one of them said he was not going to come to the second interview because based on last night's event he said his leadership is not the right fit,” Rasmussen said.Edgewood Schools Superintendent, Russ Fussnecker, sent WLWT a copy of his note to Forest Hills School District saying he would like to withdraw his candidacy for the position.The message sent to WLWT read: DeMaria who is also a teacher in another school district said it’s a real possibility parents could look at other education options for their children.The vote comes less than a month after the cancelation of the district's Diversity Day, which students responded to with an organized walkout.
