Summer League opens with former Bearcats, Musketeers getting first taste of pro basketball


The highlight of the NBA's summer schedule, the Las Vegas Summer League, tipped off over the weekend and features six players who ended their collegiate careers in Cincinnati.Representing the Bearcats are Landers Nolley II and Tre Scott, while Xavier has four former players competing: Colbey Jones, Souley Boum, Adam Kunkel and Jack Nunge.Landers Nolley II - New Orleans PelicansNolley made his presence felt in the Pelicans' opening game of the Summer League, a 102-88 loss to Minnesota, logging 10 points in 18:54 minutes of game time, the most of any non-starter for New Orleans.Accompanying his 10 points were three rebounds, two assists and a block.He was less impactful in the Pels' second game, a 94-86 loss to Golden State, scoring just twice in just over 11 minutes, once again off the bench. Nolley and the Pelicans return to the floor on Tuesday at 8 p.m. against the Phoenix Suns. The game will be broadcast on ESPN2.Tre Scott - Charlotte HornetsScott has featured in the starting lineups in each of the first two games of the summer for the Hornets, both of which have been Charlotte losses.In the opener, against the San Antonio Spurs and the number one overall pick Victor Wembanyama, Scott scored two points, recorded two rebounds and an assist in 16:15 of game time, the fewest of any of the starters. San Antonio won, 76-68.Scott was far more productive in the Hornets' second game, a 93-75 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers, logging 11 points and 21:25 minutes on the court, shooting 75% from the floor in the process.The Hornets are back in action Tuesday night against the Portland Trail Blazers at 8:30 p.m. The game can be seen on NBA TV.Colby Jones - Sacramento Kings Jones and the Kings have played just one game in Las Vegas, but did play twice in their own mini-summer league last week. That said, their lone game so far was productive for former Musketeer Colby Jones, who logged the most minutes played of anyone who saw the floor (29:46) and scored 12 points to accompany three rebounds and two steals in an 80-76 win over the Atlanta Hawks.The Kings return after their two-day layoff Monday for their first of three games in four days against the LA Clippers at 10:30 p.m. (NBA TV).Souley Boum - Sacramento KingsBoum made his summer league debut in the Kings' win over the Hawks Friday night, logging 10:49 minutes off the bench and scoring three points, collecting two rebounds, two assists and one steal.He'll look to make more of an impact Monday night against the Clippers.Adam Kunkel - Golden State WarriorsKunkel has yet to see the floor for the Warriors in their first two games of summer league play, losses to the Lakers (103-96) and Pelicans (94-86).His next chance to see the floor comes Wednesday, when the Warriors face the Dallas Mavericks (5:30 p.m., NBA TV).Jack Nunge - Detroit PistonsLike his Musketeer teammate, Nunge has also been a coach's decision DNP through the first two games of the Pistons' summer league run. Detroit defeated Orlando, 89-78, to open their summer league but fell Sunday to the Houston Rockets, 113-101.The Pistons are also off until Wednesday, when they'll face the Toronto Raptors (6 p.m., ESPN2).
