National Ice Cream Day was created by President Ronald Reagan in 1984. Reagan wanted to commemorate a treat enjoyed by over 90% of the US population, so he decreed a month and a day for ice cream, according to National Today.

Aglamesis will offer free scoops of chocolate, vanilla and strawberry ice cream for all attendees from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at the Oakley location.
The ice cream and candy shop will be hosting events all day in celebration of National Ice Cream Day, including a French Quarter Bonanza challenge in which participants must eat an eight-scoop sundae in 30 minutes or less to get the sundae for free. The successful challengers also receive a specially-engraved Aglamesis glass and, of course, the fame and glory of conquering the feat. Aglamesis will also offer a "free ice cream for a year" raffle, free stickers, a flavor suggestion board, and a first scoop contest where three people will compete to see who can scoop the tallest cone of ice cream. The winner will receive a $50 gift card.

This local creamery will offer three deals for National Ice Cream Day: BOGO kid's cones from noon-3 p.m., $2 small glaciers from 3-6 p.m., and $3 sundaes from 6-9 p.m.
Although Schneider's Sweets Shop is not offering any special deals for National Ice Cream Day, it will release two mystery flavors in honor of this special occasion.
