In the coming weeks, Greater Cincinnati sports fans will have a slew of opportunities to watch some of the best athletes in the world compete locally.
There's the Western & Southern Open Aug. 13-21 at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio.
Then in September, there's the inaugural Kroger Queen City Championship at Kenwood Country Club, featuring the world's best LPGA Tour players.
And in between those two events, the U.S. Senior Women's Open will be held Aug. 25-28 at NCR Country Club in Kettering, Ohio.
The fourth U.S. Senior Women's Open is a 72-hole stroke play event with a $1 million prize purse.
There will be a 120-player field and some star power converging on NCR Country Club.
Defending champion Annika Sorenstam, one of the most decorated golfers of all time, will headline the field for the U.S. Senior Women's Open, and she'll be joined by Hollis Stacy, Laura Davies, Juli Inkster and Liselotte Neumann.
It's a unique event, unlike any other USGA Open championship, because anyone with a ticket is allowed inside the ropes to walk the fairways following the action at the U.S. Senior Women's Open.
"A lot of the ladies that will be playing, they keep playing, they're quite active," Sorenstam said during a press conference in advance of the tournament. "I know it's going to be stiff competition. That's why I keep practicing and trying to keep up with what I can do in my game. We walked the golf course, it was fantastic, I loved it.
"... It puts a premium on most parts of the game, driving and the greens, I love the greens, but you have to be precise with the irons. It's gonna be fun. USGA is the biggest championship in women's golf and men's golf as well, so the course will be tricky. The way they set it up will be a true test and you have to be on your game start to finish."
Tickets are available at usseniorwomensopen.com. All juniors under the age of 18 receive complimentary admission.
The tournament is still seeking volunteers to help with scoring, merchandise and hospitality.
