Online sellers targeted by Google Voice scam

After one woman posted a watch for sale on Facebook Marketplace, she immediately got a response from someone saying they wanted to pick it up that day.The supposed buyer asked for the seller's cellphone number and sent a confirmation code claiming it was to confirm the ad was real and the seller was not a scammer.That six-digit code is the key to the scam.If you give the scammer that code, they can use it to create a Google Voice number linked to your phone number. The scammer might then use that new number to rip off other people and conceal their identity.
