Now, the victim's uncle, Daryl 'P Man' Jones is speaking out, determined his nephew will not be forgotten. "I broke out in tears; I cried a little bit. I couldn't reach my brother, but I cried for him," said Daryl 'P Man' Jones. His tears are ones of both joy and anger. His 27-year-old nephew Mikail Jones was shot and killed in May at a Speedway on Northern Boulevard. Wednesday morning police arrested and charged two suspects with his murder, Phazion Whyte and Jasmine Jones. "It's a lot of relief to me because I love my nephew. This is where he started, right here," Jones said.At the Finley Street Neighborhood House, Mikail learned to pick up the gloves and put down the guns. "This Mikail. I think he was 13 years old. You know, let's box, let's get this steam off our face, we ain't out here trying to kill each other. And it couldn't have been that bad, well it was that bad, but my nephew was going away from it. Whatever happened he was leaving," Jones said. Walking away from violence was something Mikail lived and preached to the young champions following in his footsteps."The kids start loving him, they started learning from him. You know I was even learning new things from him. I was just so shocked he progressed so fast," he said.'P Man' and others are sick of the senseless violence."They choose to choose that way because they don't know how to do nothing no other way. Because if they did, they would of come to a boxing gym," Jones said. "We are going to be at every court date, and I want to look at his face and I want him to look at my family's face because he took a good one from us." In September, a celebrity boxing match will be held in his honor. Both Phazion Whyte and Jasmine Jones are being held at the Justice Center. Whyte was also sentenced in 2018 for reckless homicide. That stemmed from an incident on June 10, 2017, where he shot victim Adrian Bufford in the head, killing him.
