A program offering rental assistants to residents in Hamilton County has put a pause on accepting new applications. The Community Action Agency (CAA) said the program is pausing due to a lack of available funding. The program has been in effect since Feb. 2021 and has provided more than $30 million to assist 7,000 households keep families in their home. “This has not been an easy decision because we know that the need is still great, we are receiving applications daily and folks are still coming into our building asking for help for the first time,” explains Mark B. Lawson, President/CEO. “We need to be realistic about our remaining funds and how we can assist those who have been waiting to get help.”Program officials said there is enough funding to provide rental assistance through December. Remaining funds will be used to assist thousands of families who already have pending applications.The CAA said it received an additional $3 million in funding from the city of Cincinnati. The program hopes to receive an additional $9 million from the state ERA2 fund, however that funding has not been confirmed. Families in need will still have opportunities for assistance through other programs. CAA offers help with utilities through the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP), c assistance for homeowners (mortgage, property taxes, and utilities), career readiness, Head Start and the Food Pantry.For more information, click here.
