Three students are facing charges of inducing panic after the Fairfield Police Department was notified about a threat made online Monday.It happened around 4 p.m. when the Fairfield Police Department was notified about a social media post that indicated that a school shooting would occur on Aug. 23.Police said, although the threat didn't specifically mention one of their schools, they proceeded as if it had. Police notified school administrators and school resource officers, and additional security measures were put in place to address the possible threat.Police also started to follow up on leads to identify those responsible for the online threat.On Tuesday, around 10:30 a.m., investigators identified the three responsible, who were all Fairfield High School students.The three were taken into custody by a school resource officer at the high school. They are facing charges of inducing panic, a first-degree misdemeanor, and were released to their parents pending a court hearing."We take the safety and security of our schools seriously and will be diligent in that regard. Threats of this nature, regardless of their intent, will not be tolerated. They have a tremendous impact on students, school staff and the community. It is the intent of the Fairfield Police Department to prosecute anyone who threatens violence against our schools," Chief Stephen B. Maynard said in a statement.
