Day 2 of the 2022 MLB Draft gets underway Tuesday afternoon, with rounds 3-10.On Sunday, the Reds selected four players: junior college infielder Cam Collier, prep infielder Sal Stewart, Mississippi State catcher Logan Tanner and Oregon State outfielder Justin Boyd.Below are the picks the Reds have on Tuesday. The Seminole Southpaw went 8-2 in 14 starts for FSU with a 3.18 ERA, striking out 94 and walking 18 (a career-best 5.22 strikeout to walk ratio). MLB.com's scouting report notes Hubbart may have "a little more upside" than his rotation mate, lefty Parker Messick who was taken Sunday, and was able to leverage strong outings in the Cape Cod League to improve his draft stock.Round 4, 123rd overall: Kenya Huggins, RHP, Chipola College (Fla.)The second time in as many rounds on Day 2 the Reds draft a pitcher and the second time this draft Cincinnati takes a member of the Chipola Indians. Huggins appeared in 15 games for Chipola, starting 14, and went 4-3 with a 2.96 ERA, striking out 97. MLB.com's scouting report notes his two plus-pitches as his fastball and slider. He was teammates with the Reds' first-round pick, Cam Collier. His MLB.com pre-draft ranking was 181.Round 5, 153th overall: Hunter Cade, C, Virginia TechThe Reds take their second catcher this draft with Hunter Cade, the 145th-ranked draft prospect by MLB.com. Cade came into his own in 2022, slashing .330/.440/.637 with 17 home runs and 66 RBI, both marks good enough for second (or tied for second) on the team, behind only Tanner Schobel. Round 6, 183rd overall: Zach Maxwell, P, Georgia Tech The Reds drafted another pitcher on Day 2 of the draft. The former Yellow Jacket made 24 appearances in relief on the mound in 2021. He led the team with a 3.09 ERA, recorded a 2-2 record and three saves. Maxwell allowed just 11 earned runs in 32.0 innings, striking out 56 on the year – good for best on the team among relievers. He held opponents to a paltry .185 batting average.Round 7, 213th overall: Trey Faltine, SS, TexasAs redshirt sophomore in 2022, Faltine went 3-for-5 with a double, two runs scored, and five RBI against Baylor. He went 3-for-5 with one double, one homer and three runs batted in against Air Force. 2-for-4 against Texas A&M with two homers and three RBI. Faltine had a two run homer against The Citadel. Had a 2-for-3 at bat with a three run homer against Texas State (3/8). He went 2-for-3 with an RBI home run against Tennessee and hit his first career triple during the season opener against Rice. Round 8, 243rd overall: Chris McElvain, P, Vanderbilt The Reds select their third pitcher in the draft. As a junior, McElvain pitched the first seven innings of combined no-hitter at Kentucky, while striking out nine. Totaled 10 strikeouts over 4.0 scoreless innings in season opener vs. Oklahoma State, earning first win on the season. He struck out 13 in 7.0 innings at Hawaii for second win on the season, worked 6.0 innings in SEC opener vs. Missouri, striking out eight and picking up the win, threw seven shutout innings at South Carolina and was the SEC Pitcher of the Week. Round 9, 273rd overall: Rob Hensey, P, Monmouth UniversityAnother pitcher goes to the Reds as they select Rob Hensey. Hensey started seven games, going 5-0 with a 1.54 ERA, named MAAC Pitcher of the Year, earned All-MAAC First Team honors. Hensey's ERA ranked fifth in the nation, while strikeout-to-walk ratio of 6.83 was 17th nationally and best in MAAC.Round 10, 303rd overall: Brody Jessee, P, GonzagaWith the last pick of the day, the Reds selected another pitcher. In 2021, Jessee received the WCC All-Conference Honorable Mention, finished the season with 33 K’s in 25 innings of work.
