Goodwill locates son of WWII soldier whose letters were found in donation box

Wartime letters found at a northern Kentucky Goodwill have been returned to the writer’s family. The letters were written 80 years ago by Navy seaman Robert Ballantine during World War II. One letter was composed at sea, postmarked Jan. 27, 1943."You'll hear from me as soon as I am located someplace else which I hope is soon," the letter reads. "Yours till I hit an oceanfront." It was signed, "Bob." Ballantine was a gunners mate, 3rd class, aboard the USS LST-385.His letters were discovered inside a distinctive box that was among the donations at the Goodwill store in Bellevue, Kentucky, over the Labor Day weekend.(Watch the video below to see the original story)Goodwill was working to find Ballatine’s next of kin to return the letters to them.
