After a three-way race and several months of campaigning, Cincinnati police Sgt. Dan Hils kept his seat as president of Cincinnati's police union after the votes were tallied Monday night.
The union has about 950 active duty members and 700 retired members who can cast their votes in the election. Hils said Monday the turnout was "huge."
"It was a well-contested race," Hils said. "But I got the majority of the votes."
After the election Monday night, Hils was headed home because he was scheduled for an officer representation at 9 a.m. Tuesday morning.
Hils lays out goals
He told The Enquirer his goals for his upcoming term are simple.
"I need to be there. I need to be there for the unknown," Hils said. "My unknown does not compare to the unknown of that of a street officer. I need to be there to defend the actions of my officers whenever they are justified."
