Bengals seek first win of season, tangle with Jets


The Cincinnati Bengals are still in search of their first win of the 2022 season and, for the second straight week, they'll look to get win number one on the road, as they head to the Big Apple to take on the New York Jets.The start of the season has gone far from expected for the Bengals: The offensive line hasn't been the instant cure-all fans were hoping it'd be, the offense has started slow to begin with and, as stated above, the Bengals are still winless.Joe Burrow, Zac Taylor and the rest of the Bengals were right to not push the panic button when speaking to the media this week: There's 15 games left, and the AFC North is far from over - only one team has a winning record prior to kickoff on Sunday, and that's because it was an all-divisional affair on Thursday night (Browns bested the Steelers).However, a loss on Sunday and alarm bells could begin to sound, especially with a short week on the Horizon: Since 1979, only six teams have gone 0-3 and still made the playoffs.But, there's time to worry about that when the time comes. We still have four quarters ahead of us and, if the Bengals offense gets started on the right foot, we could be in for something of a shootout.At the bottom of this story will be a running live blog, of sorts, to keep you updated with everything going on in the Meadowlands.2nd Quarter7:50: McPherson kicks a 22 yard FG and of course it's good. Bengals up 17-6.7:57: Jets challenged the completion ruling and the play was reversed. Burrow passed incomplete to Chase. Burrow at the 3rd & Goal is on the run, does a spin to avoid a sack and throws to Chase right on the goal line. Burrow passes to Mixon for a 9 yard gain, goes to Mixon again and gains 2 yards. 10:13: Penalty was thrown on the Jets for unnecessary roughness as Higgins was escorted off the field.Burrow throws DEEP to Higgins. Higgins is still in the ground as he took a hard hit and lost his helmet. He signaled to the medical team he was OK. Higgins was removed from the first game of the season against the Steelers for a concussion after taking a rough hit. Jets' Branden Mann punts 47 yards, Trent Taylor pushed out of bounds for 15 yards.11:36: Very next play, Flacco gets sacked AGAIN, for a loss of 8 yards. Bengals' Trey Hendrickson gets the tackles, but Jets recover the ball.Flacco gets sacked and losses the ball. Flacco throws an incomplete pass deep left to Elijah Moore. 3:54: Burrow passes to Ja'Marr Chase and the ball came free. Jets recovered the fumble. The play is being reviewed to see if Chase had control of the ball long enough for it to be ruled a catch. Jets' Greg Zuerlein kicks 65 yards to the end zone for a touchback. 5:04: Jets go for a 50 yard FG and the attempt was successful. Jets are now on the board. Bengals are still up 7-3. Flacco flips it to the outside and the ball dropped right at the first down. Bengals defense stops Jets at the 3rd & 9. Joe Flacco passes incomplete and a penalty is thrown on Cincinnati for defensive holding. Evan McPherson kicks 65 yards to the end zone for a touchback. Bengals lead 7-0 with 9:35 remaining in the first quarter. 9:35: The ruling on the field stands and Burrow goes on the run on the next play and throws a touchdown pass to Samaje Perine.Burrow passes to Tee Higgins and he almost got a touchdown but was called out of bounds. The call is being challenged. 10:31: Burrow passed short middle to Boyd as he scored the first touchdown for Cincinnati. A flag was thrown on the play for offensive holding and the touchdown was nullified.Boyd gets the first down for the Bengals. 2nd Quarter
