Man charged after death of 18-year-old Mason grad in crash


A man is facing charges in connection with a crash that killed an 18-year-old Mason High School graduate, according to an indictment filed Friday in Butler County Common Pleas Court.

Michael Ondreka, 24, is charged with two counts of aggravated vehicular homicide, one count of operating a vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol and one count of driving under OVI suspension, court records show.

The two-vehicle crash occurred at Tylersville and Butler Warren roads around 11 p.m. on June 14, West Chester Township police said.

Jyan Waespe was taken to an area hospital following the crash, police said, adding the teen later died at the hospital.

In a Facebook post, Mason City Schools said Waespe was an expectant father and 2022 graduate.

Ondreka was booked into the Butler County Jail on Friday afternoon, where he remains in custody, jail records show.
