Asking for help is not easy, but a Hamilton mother says she's reaching out for her son. For years, she's had an illness that's taking away her ability to keep up with her toddler. Now, she's hoping to raise enough money to afford a costly surgery in Barcelona."Half of my body would go numb and I couldn't get my words out. So, I really thought I was having a stroke," Hamilton mother, Cailyn Davish, said.After Davish's son Hercules was born, she never felt the same. She says tells us she experienced chronic headaches, fatigue and intense pain from head to toe."It's progressed pretty rapidly over the past few years, unfortunately, and symptoms are debilitating," Davish said.She consulted with countless doctors, and finally, the answer she was hoping for came a few months ago. Davish says she was diagnosed with Chiari Malformation. It's when the brain tissue grows into the spinal canal. She also has syringomyelia. It's a more than five-centimeter cyst growing in her spinal cord. "I'm getting slightly worse every day and I already can't feel my hands very well anymore. That's a big sign to the doctor that the cyst is growing and getting worse, unfortunately," Davish said.Davish says she has two options. She can get brain surgery in the United States with lengthy risks or a rare minimally invasive procedure in Barcelona, which is not covered by insurance. She's hoping to raise $30,000 for the surgery in Spain that's less invasive. "My cyst is probably going to get bigger, so I could become paraplegic where I can't use my extremities anymore," Davish said.For this mother and son, giving up is not an option. Davish is trying to stay strong to stay in Hercules' life for as long as she can and get the procedure abroad. "He keeps me going, you know? I can't give up.
