Local hospitals seeing rise in pickleball injuries as sport surges in popularity


As the first day of summer officially arrives, more people are getting outside to stay active in the warm weather.You may have noticed that more pickleball courts have been popping up in the Greater Cincinnati area.As the sport continues to grow in popularity, doctors said they are seeing more people getting hurt while playing.According to The Christ Hospital, 75 percent of people playing pickleball are older than 65.Pickleball comes with a lot of explosive and lateral movements in a short area, which can take a toll on knees, ankles and other parts of the body.The Christ Hospital said they are seeing more reports of Achilles ruptures, broken bones and knee and back problems."Obviously, warming up beforehand, I think, is important before any sport stretching afterwards.
