Xavier’s offense carries the Musketeers in win over Florida

Xavier beat Florida 90-83 on Thursday to open the Phil Knight Legacy event with a win. The Musketeers will play No. 8 Duke on Friday at 3:30 p.m.

PORTLAND, Ore. ‒ The offense carried the water on Thursday for Xavier's men's basketball team in a 90-83 win over Florida in the first round of the Phil Knight Legacy tournament at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Portland.

The Musketeers leaned on their experienced starters and it paid off. Souley Boum was sensational with 22 points, five rebounds and six assists. Colby Jones finally broke free offensively and exploded for a career-high 22 points, shooting 4-of-5 from 3-point range.

Jack Nunge added 16 points and nine rebounds. Zach Freemantle scored 14 points with 11 rebounds and seven turnovers.

Adam Kunkel got the start and finished with 11 points.

Xavier's starters scored 85 points.

Xavier's defense wasn't great, but the Musketeers stood up when it mattered, holding the Gators to four points over the final 2:26.

Xavier (4-1) advances to play No. 8 Duke on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
