Vocal chops are a dime a dozen on “The Voice,” but Team Blake aces singing from the heart.
Team Blake singer Bryce Leatherwood charmed coaches Blake Shelton, John Legend, Camila Cabello and Gwen Stefani during the second round of the live shows Monday night. The top 13 singers were tasked with performing a song that changed their life.
Leatherwood offered up a sweet performance of George Strait’s “Amarillo by Morning,” an endearing standard in the Georgia vocalist’s set. Shelton said the performance was a moment of redemption for Leatherwood, who found himself in the bottom four last week.
“This may be the first time I’ve ever actually felt like a stage mom,” Shelton said. “I was singing every word; I was so into that. … That was a great, solid performance.”
Leatherwood’s teammate bodie pulled on heartstrings with a powerhouse cover of his wedding song “I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)” by The Proclaimers.
“What I loved about tonight and what you do is you have so much access to your heart,” Stefani told bodie. “It’s so real. I believe you so much. I can’t believe you’re not a huge star yet.”

“You went superstar on this one,” Cabello told Devix. “You’re amazing. I want to scream.”
Who dialed down the campy showmanship with a tender cover of Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling in Love.”
“It’s very cool and very vulnerable of you to pick something like this because you’ve shown us so much fabulousness,” Legend told Who. “It’s just giving America a chance to get to know all of who you are.”

Cruse channeled the grief of her grandmother’s death into a soaring performance of Willie Nelson’s “Always on My Mind.”
“I just lost my grandmother probably around the same time you lost yours, and I was so emotional just listening to you,” Legend told Cruse. “That was so beautiful, so soulful.”

There was no shortage of honest feeling for Team Gwen singers Alyssa Witrado and Justin Aaron.
Witrado slowed things down with a soulful cover of “Dreaming of You” by Selena.

Aaron closed out the show with a cathartic rendition of “Break Every Chain” by Tasha Cobbs Leonard, earning a standing ovation from all four coaches and moving Stefani to tears.
“You took it to the next level, and it was so beautiful. It was so moving,” Stefani told Aaron. “I can’t even speak. I’m in awe of you.”
