In April, 6-foot-2, 190-pound Braedyn Moore of Badin High School became the latest "Hometown Hero" to commit to the University of Cincinnati's football team. Now, with the abrupt departure of coach Luke Fickell to Wisconsin, Moore is the latest to reopen his recruitment.
Wednesday afternoon, Moore posted his intentions on Twitter, as have several players who were slated to sign Dec. 21 on college football's early signing day.
The four-star safety/receiver wrote:
"At this point, I not only speak for myself but many others. As we grow from boys to me life presents us with decisions. Often times easy isn't always the best route. It is the tough decisions that help us grow. We all keep our family in mind to make these decisions and go with what is best. All in all, business is business. At the beginning and the end of the day, we're all human. Everday is still God's plan. I would like to thank the University of Cincinnati and the whole coaching staff. Thank you for all of the time and effort in recruiting and believing in me as a person and student-athlete. Thank you to Bearcat Nation and the community around me that has supported me. After a lot of thought and consideration, I have decided to de-commit from the University of Cincinnati and reopen my recruitment."
When he committed in April, Moore was coming off a junior season that saw the Rams make it to the Ohio Division III state championship game. He had 61 catches for 655 yards and four touchdowns and also returned a punt for 63 yards and a score. This season Badin was 13-1 losing in the state semifinals. Moore had 79 catches and led the Greater Catholic League-Coed Division with 1,039 receiving yards for 15 touchdowns. He also ran for 183 yards with two scores. As a safety, he had 45 tackles plus four interceptions for 107 yards.
Moore had just posted a graphic of himself in a UC uniform on Thanksgiving. The Bearcats lost the following day, with Fickell bound for Madison, Wisconsin two days later.
Badin coach Nick Yordy said the Bearcats were looking at him as a safety.
"He's got size physically and he can run and he can jump," Yordy said in April. "I think he really can excel at that position. They're getting a really good football player."
