The Tarblooders become the first Cleveland Public School to win a state title in football. It was an incredulous rise from the ashes feat that Glenville has pulled off over the past two seasons.It was also Ted Ginn, Sr.’s first ring, in this, his 25th season as the head coach and the 240th victory in his career. The program he conceived, had to be rebuilt as Glenville did not even play football in 2020 as Covid and its protocols shut things down. Many of Ginn’s players dispersed to other schools to continue to play football, during that trying time. Ginn, Sr. found a way to piece the program back together and he has now done so in the grandest of fashions.Glenville running back D’Shawntae Jones was a load for Wyoming to handle. The Glenville junior did a large portion of his from the start of the second quarter through the first three minutes of the third quarter, breaking open a 6-6 tie. In that span, he ran for three touchdowns and his own personal eighteen unanswered points. It was control of the contest that the Tarblooders would never relinquish. Jones finished 195 yards on 28 carries and the three scores.Outside of an 81-yard touchdown run by Hester in the first quarter, Wyoming found valuable and clutch yards tough to earn against the tenacious Tarblooders defense. Hester, the three-time OPSWA Division IV Southwest District Offensive Player of the Year and 2022 Ohio Mr. Football Finalist would finish the night with 98 yards on 12 carries.The Cowboys defense gave up a season high 28-points. Despite that, Wyoming still held opponents to just 5.1 points per game with 10 shutouts.Hester and his Wyoming senior classmates finish their careers 50-4.
