CANTON, Ohio — For the second time in four years, the Wyoming wagon train of Cowboys made the 232-plus mile trek from Pendery Avenue to Stark County's Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium. After winning their first championship in since 1977 in 2018, coach Aaron Hancock's undefeated crew is after the hat trick.
It's 15-0 Wyoming vs. 14-0 Cleveland Glenville. The Tarblooders' nickname comes from an old athletic rally cry claiming Glenville would whack the tar and blood out of their opponents, thus their red and black colors.
Glenville is back in the state title game for the first time since 2013 when they lost in the snow for the Division II championship to Loveland's Tigers. They have since dropped down two divisions. During their 2022 run, they took on Division I, II and III schools and didn't play any Division IV schools until the playoffs.
Twitter updates throughout the contest will be here:
While Wyoming boasts Ohio Mr. Football finalist C.J. Hester, currently committed to Western Michigan, Glenville has served up a plethora of players to the NFL and Division I college football. Linebacker Arvell Reese is an Ohio State commit, corner Bryce West is a junior with offers from Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Alabama and Cincinnati and 225-pound junior running back D'Shawntae Jones has reported offers from Kentucky, Marshall and Syracuse.
While high school football doesn't offer organized betting, College of Wooster mathematician Dr. Drew Pasteur has offered up lines and probabilities this season and pegged Glenville as a 10-point favorite.
