The Cincinnati Bengals have released veteran punter Kevin Huber, head coach Zac Taylor confirmed Monday.Huber, the longest-tenured Bengal on the roster, has spent his entire 14-year career with the Bengals after being drafted in the fifth round of the 2009 NFL draft out of Cincinnati.Huber has played 216 regular-season games, overtaking Ken Riley for the most regular-season games played in franchise history with a streak of 138 consecutive games from 2014-22.Huber was the team's career leader in every major statistical category for punting, including total punts (1011), punting yards (45,766), gross average (45.27), net average (40.34) and punts inside the opponent’s 20-yard line (346).He was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2014 and also served as a holder on placekicks his entire Bengals career.There was a punting battle this season, with the Bengals elevating punter Drue Chrisman to their active roster from the practice squad.The 25-year-old from Ohio State has played in the last three games for the team. "Kevin's been such a big part of this organization and this city for such a long time," Taylor said. "He's represented his family, his team, his city. It’s been a great story. He’s a great person. We are appreciative of the time he gave us. Kevin had a great run here and we appreciate that."“Kevin was our punter for a very long time,” Bengals President Mike Brown said in a statement. “We appreciated every moment he was here. He has been a steadying force for us, an excellent player and a good person. Any football team would be blessed to have him for the length of time we did.”According to NBC Sports, Huber will go on waivers, and any team that wants him can claim him. If he goes unclaimed he’ll be a free agent.
