Previous reporting: Flights to New York, Philadelphia and Newark have been paused due to reduced visibility from wildfire smoke.
The Federal Aviation Administration, an agency responsible for the safety of civil aviation, tweeted Thursday that it has paused flights from the Northeast, Ohio, and Mid-Atlantic to LaGuardia Airport in Queens, New York, and Philadelphia International Airport due to reduced visibility from wildfire smoke. The FAA also delayed all flights to Newark Liberty International Airport nationwide.
The FAA added that it will continue to "adjust the volume of traffic to account for the rapidly changing conditions."
The agency said the smoke may continue to impact air travel today and tht it will manage traffic flow safely into New York City; Washington, D.C.; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Charlotte, North Carolina.
Flight departure delays to New York and Philadelphia
According to the FAA website, departures to LaGuardia are delayed an average of 54 minutes due to low visibility. Newark International Airport is also delayed 34 mins.
Departures to Philadelphia International Airport have been ground-stopped due to low visibility. Probability of extension is low, less than 30%.
Are flights from CVG to New York, Philadelphia and Newark delayed?
Delays are not applied to departures from Cincinnati/ Northern Kentucky International Airport, with most arrivals and departures scheduled to arrive on time.
Mindy Kershner, a CVG spokesperson, told The Enquirer that air quality concerns are not an issue for the airport right now, but CVG will continue to monitor the situation for possible impact. Kershner recommends that travelers always check their airline flight status before traveling.
