Marcus Peters fined for taunting, not for punching Joe Mixon

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase approaches Baltimore Ravens cornerback Marcus Peters.

Baltimore Ravens defensive back Marcus Peters was fined $10,609 for unsportsmanlike conduct (taunting) during his team's wild-card loss to the Bengals in Cincinnati last weekend, according to a report via Twitter from NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

Peters was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct for taunting, and the fine aligns with NFL Operations' fine schedule for taunting. But he appeared to punch Bengals running back Joe Mixon during the first quarter. A fine for punching or striking would have been higher.

"There was a punch there in addition to everything that was going on with the taunting, with the verbal stuff too," NBC play-by-play announcer Mike Tirico said during the "Sunday Night Football" broadcast. "Officials have to draw a line some place at some point to keep it from boiling over."
