The Lakota West High School Firebirds avenged a 13-point home loss last month to their archrival, the Lakota East High School Thunderhawks, with a 37-36 win Friday night at East.
East held a four-point lead through three quarters after leading by three at the half.
With West trailing by one point with 22 seconds left, Firebirds senior Nathan Dudukovich missed a free throw. But players scrambled for the rebound, and Dudukovich came up with the loose ball and gave West the lead with a layup with 17 seconds left - a lead that held until the final buzzer.
West quarterback Mitch Bolden, who announced his commitment earlier in the week to play for the Army Black Knights at the U.S. Military Academy, was among the first to congratulate Dudukovich.
