According to police, two people have died after a shooting in Middletown early Saturday morning.A nearby neighbor, who does not want to be identified, says he was awake when the gunshots rang out Saturday morning. “I don’t know if they have anything to live for or what. All they see is this cemetery over here. I guess they’re dying to get into it,” the neighbor said. “At 3:30, I couldn’t sleep. I was watching the news tossing and turning and then I heard pop pop.”Minister Madolyn Bennett of United Missionary Baptist Church is on the street praying for change as the latest shooting hits too close to home.“It saddens me because I'm thinking what can we do better to have stopped this situation from occurring or continuing to occur,” Bennett said. “I live in this neighborhood and the best thing I can do right now is come out and pray for our neighborhood.”Officials say the Middletown Division of Police and Middletown Division of Fire responded to 15th Avenue for a report of two people shot at approximately 3:30 a.m. Once on scene, officers located two people suffering from gunshot wounds.Officials transported one person to the Atrium Medical Center for further treatment where they died, while a second individual was pronounced dead at the scene.Police have not released the names of the victims at this time.The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.Police do not have a suspect in custody at this time.
