The jersey Joe Montana was wearing when the 49ers quarterback led his epic game-winning drive against the Bengals in Super Bowl XXIII sold for a record $1.2 million at auction on Wednesday.
The amount beat out the previous record, $480,000 for a 2021 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Tom Brady jersey, that was set last year.
"It's only right that the two greatest quarterbacks of all time are still trading off records, even in retirement," Ken Goldin, founder of Goldin Auctions, which auctioned off the jersey, told USA TODAY.
