A former University of Kentucky student who is accused of attacking another student and using racial slurs was formally charged Tuesday.
A Fayette County grand jury indicted Sophia Rosing, 22, of Fort Mitchell, Kentucky, on six charges. That includes three misdemeanor counts of assault and one count of assault on a police officer, a felony.
Rosing's charges stem from a Nov. 6 racist tirade and assault of a Black student in a residence hall. Rosing was arrested that night and banned from campus. UK President Eli Capilouoto announced on social media that she would not be able to re-enroll.
The case entered the public eye after videos were posted online. In them, a woman authorities identify as Rosing can be seen struggling with the desk clerk and later with the police. Video also captures her repeatedly using racial slurs.
Rosing's attorney could not immediately be reached for comment Wednesday night.
