SI.com's Albert Breer wrote that he expects other teams to inquire about Cincinnati Bengals receiver Tee Higgins because Higgins "is going into a contract year and will be expensive to keep."
Breer added in his MMQB column that that the Bengals "would be better off with (Southern Cal receiver) Jordan Addison, (Ohio State receiver) Jaxon Smith-Njigba or (TCU receiver) Quentin Johnston … for the length of a rookie deal" with the pick received in a trade if they figure out they can't afford a new deal for Higgins.
Many expect Addison, Smith-Njigba and Johnston to be selected in the first round of the 2023 NFL draft in April.
The Enquirer's Kelsey Conway noted in December that "most players of Higgins' caliber sign extensions ahead of the final year of the contract."
Higgins has 215 catches for 3,028 yards with 19 receiving touchdowns in three seasons with the Bengals.
The Enquirer's Charlie Goldsmith wrote last month that Higgins has become the player he has always wanted to be.
Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen publicly offered supportive remarks to Higgins as defensive back Damar Hamlin recovered after suffering cardiac arrest at Cincinnati's Paycor Stadium in January.
