Calmer And Nicer Weekend

THE LAST COUPLE DAYS KEVIN HAS BEEN TALKING ABOUT WHAT TO EXPECT TONIGHT. LAST NIGHT YOU MENTIONED IT COULD BE 60-70 MILES EITHER WAY. DID IT FALL THE WAY YOU THOUGHT? KEVIN: DESPITE THE TORNADO IN HIGHLAND COUNTY, WE’VE GOT LUCKY. THE INSTABILITY DIDN’T BUILD. IT RAINED ALL DAY LONG, THAT WAS THE SAVING GRACE. WE HAD WAY TOO MUCH RAIN TODAY. BUT TO THAT KEPT TO THE INSTABILITY DOWN. YOU SAW WHAT HAPPENED IN HIGHLAND COUNTY. SHOCKED WE WERE EVEN ABLE TO GET A TORNADO, GIVEN CONDITIONS WERE SO COOL THIS AFTERNOON. YOU CAN ONLY IMAGINE IF WE HAD BEEN ABOUT 10 DEGREES WARMER, IT WOULD’VE BEEN A WHOLE DIFFERENT BALLGAME. WE CAME THROUGH THIS RELATIVELY UNSCATHED ASIDE FROM ALL THE POWER OUTAGES. HERE IS MORE VIDEO OF THE TORNADO OUT THERE IN HIGHLAND COUNTY. YOU CAN SEE THE VERY THIN FUNNEL. THIS IS PART OF THE REASON WHY WHAT WE WILL FIND OUT IN THE END, THIS WAS A RELATIVELY WEAK TORNADO. PROBABLY AN EF ZERO OR EF1. IT’S IMPRESSIVE TO SEE THE SPINNING MOTION IN THE ATMOSPHERE. ALL WE NEEDED WERE ACTUAL STORMS . HAD WE HAD THE INSTABILITY, THE JUICE TO SUPPORT MORE ROBUST THUNDERSTORMS, THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT SCENARIO. BUT IT RAINED ALL DAY, IT KEPT THINGS COOL. YOU CAN SEE THE TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF TURNING MOTION IN THE ATMOSPHERE. WE JUST DIDN’T GET ENOUGH STORMS TO TAP INTO THAT. THE GOOD NEWS, THINGS ARE QUIET FROM HERE ON OUT THROUGH THE REST OF YOUR UPCOMING WEEKEND. THE WIND GUSTS ARE COMING DOWN. MOST OF THEM ARE UNDER 30 MILES PER HOUR. THE ONLY ONE THAT IS HIGH IS NEAR WILMINGTON. EVEN THERE, THE WINDS ARE BEGINNING TO SUBSIDE. MOST GUSTS ARE UNDER 30. LESS PROBLEMATIC, DUKE CAN GET OUT THERE AND RESTORE THE POWER AROUND THE AREA. NEAR HURRICANE FORCE WIND GUSTS THIS AFTERNOON. MAYSVILLE GUSTING TO 71. ALMOST 70 IN WILMINGTON AND OWENTON. WHAT WAS MOST IMPRESSIVE IS THE FACT THAT THE MAJORITY OF THESE HIGH WINDS, MOST OF THE ISSUES FROM THE WINDS CAME AFTER OUR THREAT FOR SEVERE WEATHER ENDED. HOW MUCH RAIN HAS FALLEN? EASILY OVER TWO INCHES, CLOSE TO THREE IN THE HAMILTON AREA. WE HAD MAYBE MORE RAIN THAN WE WANTED OUT THERE. THIS RAIN WAS THE SAVING GRACE. THE RADAR IS QUIET, A FEW SPOTTY SHOWERS ACROSS PARTS OF HIGHLAND COUNTY IN THE DIRECTION OF MOUNT OR -- WE ARE DONE WITH THE RAINFALL. YOU CAN SEE THE SPIN OF THIS STORM CENTER AS IT CRUISED RIGHT ACROSS THE OHIO VALLEY. OVER A 200 MILE SPAN, WE WENT FROM HEAVY SNOW, NORTH OF INDIANAPOLIS, TO TORNADOES NEAR OHIO RIVER. THAT SPEAKS TO HOW INTENSE THIS STORM CENTER WAS AS IT SPUN ITS WAY THROUGH THE AREA. WE HAD A NEW RECORD LOW PRESSURE SETTING IN LOUISVILLE. VERY INTENSE STORM, THAT’S WHY THE WINDS HAVE BEEN SO HIGH. AS THE STORM PULLS AWAY, THE WINDS WILL DROP. BY THE TIME YOU WAKE UP, MOST OF THESE WINDS WILL BE WAY DOWN AND WE WILL HAVE SUBSIDED. OUTSIDE NOW, IT IS WINDY AND COLD, WE ARE AT 37 IN CINCINNATI. IT FEELS LIKE IT’S IN THE MID 20’S WITH THE WINDS. THE COLDER AIR IS SPILLING INTO THE TRI-STATE ON THE BACKSIDE OF THE STORM AS IT HEADS UP TOWARDS CLEVELAND. TEMPERATURES ARE DROPPING INTO THE 30’S. SKIES WILL BE CLOUDY THROUGH THE NIGHT, WE WILL START WITH CLOUDS TOMORROW BEFORE SUNSHINE. IT’S A BEAUTIFUL WEEKEND, A NICE WARM UP. ENJOY THIS WEEKEND, THERE ARE SIGNS THAT OUR WEEKENDS MIGHT NOT BE QUITE AS ENJOYABLE. I THINK WE ARE GOING BACK TO WINTER. TOMORROW MORNING CLOUDS, THEN SUNNY AND NICE, 53. HERE’S A LOOK AT YOUR DAY PLANNER. IN THE 50’S TOMORROW, AFTER A LITTLE BIT OF A CHILLY START. HERE IS YOUR SEVEN-DAY FORECAST. LET’S ENJOY THE MILD, QUIET WEATHER THE REST OF THIS WEEK. ALL OF US THAT WERE EXCITED ABOUT SPRING, MAYBE NOT GETTING SO EXCITED ANYMORE. I SEE SIGNS OF WINTER AND REAL COLD. OLDER THAN IT WAS IN FEBRUARY. -- COLDER THAN IT WAS I

High winds will relax overnight leaving a nice weekend.
