The Cincinnati Reds will play without third baseman Mike Moustakas until at least April 27.
Initially, Moustakas was in the starting lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. But before the game, manager David Bell said he wanted to make sure Moustakas was at 100 percent.
Later Tuesday afternoon, the Reds placed Moustakas on the 10-day injured list retroactive to Saturday. The nature of Moustakas' illness was not disclosed.
Moustakas was scratched from the lineup on Friday with a non-COVID illness, and he now after being placed on the IL he will be eligible to return on April 27.
Moustakas has hit .289 this season with a .957 OPS, which ranks third among qualifying Reds hitters. His most recent game was Wednesday, and Moustakas doubled in that game against the San Francisco Giants.
