Juveniles charged felonious assault after shooting near Woodward High School

HI, CURTIS. HI THERE, MIKE. IN SYRIA. YOU KNOW, THIS COMMUNITY CONVERSATION WENT FAR BEYOND WHAT YOU MIGHT THINK IS MORE THAN JUST YOUNG PEOPLE ENDING UP HERE AT JUVENILE DETENTION. IT IS SOMETHING THAT WE’VE HEARD BEFORE. THIS IS A MULTIPRONGED PROBLEM, NEEDING MULTIPLE SOLUTIONS. I THINK IN THIS CONVERSATION AROUND GUNS, VIOLENCE, EDUCATION AND SAVING LIVES, I THINK THAT PEOPLE ARE WEARY. PEOPLE ARE FED UP. PEOPLE DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO. PEOPLE DON’T THINK THEY CAN DO ANYTHING. I WAS REALLY AS ASSESSMENT ABOUT THE ISSUE OF GUNS AND VIOLENCE COMES ONE DAY AFTER A COMMUNITY DIALOG HERE AT WOODWARD HIGH SCHOOL. DIALOG SPARKED BY A SHOOTING NEAR THE SCHOOL APRIL 4TH TO STUDENTS WERE SHOT AT A BUS STOP NEAR THE SCHOOL. AND NOW POLICE CONFIRM THEY HAVE ARRESTED THE JUVENILES. THEY SAY ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THAT SHOOTING. THEY ARE CHARGED WITH FELONIOUS ASSAULT. STUDIES ARE TELLING US THAT WHEN YOU RELAX, LAWS AROUND PERMITS, TRAINING KIDS WHO CAN CARRY GUNS, HOW MANY GUNS YOU CAN HAVE BACKGROUND CHECKS, ALL THESE THINGS THAT WE’VE BEEN TALKING ABOUT FOR A VERY LONG TIME. WHAT WHAT THE STUDIES ARE SHOWING AND THIS IS THAT CRIME WILL GO UP. WE HAVE MORE GUN SHOWS THAN WE HAVE MORE FEED THE CHILDREN. A STUDENT LED PROTEST HAS ALSO FUELED THE SAFETY CONCERNS. CPS, A SUPERINTENDENT AND METRO LEADERS ARE ALSO MEETING TO DISCUSS SOME OF THE RECOMMENDATIONS. STUDENTS SUGGESTED TO KEEP THEM SAFE. YOU KNOW, CURTIS, WE HAD BOYCOTT DEMANDS JUST LIKE THE STUDENTS AT WHAT WERE HIGH SCHOOL. AND THOSE BOYCOTT DEMANDS WERE MORE THAN JUST POLICE REFORM. WHAT WE’RE HOPING THAT COMES FROM THOSE CONVERSATIONS IS THAT PEOPLE WHO SIT IN THE POSITIONS OF POWER TO CHANGE THOSE ISSUES THAT WERE LED BY THE STUDENTS AND PUT FORWARD IN THE COMMUNITY THAT FED INTO THOSE ISSUES TO HELP BUILD THOSE ISSUES OUT. LAST NIGHT. THAT WILL CONTINUE TO MEET. AND THEN WE COME BACK IN 30 DAYS AND REPORT BACK OUT. YEAH, AND THAT’S KEY THAT THIS IS NOT JUST A ONE TIME CONVERSATION AND I WAS REALLY SAD. THEY WILL CONTINUE TO MEET. SHE HAS NOT DETERMINED A DATE OR LOCATION FOR THAT NEXT SESSION.
