The Cincinnati Reds and pitcher Hunter Greene have agreed to a massive six-year contract extension worth more than $50 million, the team confirmed Tuesday.The $53 million contract is guarunteed through the 2028 season and includes a $21 million club option, $2 million buyout, for 2029."The commitment we made to Hunter reflects his commitment to this organization and to our community," Reds Chief Executive Officer Bob Castellini said in a statement. "He is part of the foundation of young players who will continue to help us build a successful Major League team."Green, 23, was the first pitcher 25 or under to start for the Reds on pening ay since 1980. In his career so far, Greene has produced 188 strikouts while allowing just 124 hits in 142.2 innings.Green was selected from Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks, California with the team's first pick of the June 2017 first-year player draft, the second pick overall.
