The planets Mercury, Jupiter and Saturn clump together tonight in the southwestern sky just after sunset. They will be extremely low in the sky, so you'll need a clear view to the horizon.
Your timing must be impeccable on this one, because if you look too early, the sky will be too bright to see them. If you look too late, the planets will set below the ground.
How to spot the trifecta
Face the spot the Sun set and look between 20-30 minutes after sunset (exactly 6pm here in Cincinnati).
- Jupiter will be the brightest and easiest of the three to see.
- Mercury will be to Jupiter's left and only shine half as bright.
- Saturn is the toughest one to spot since it is the faintest and lowest in the sky of the three planets.
All three planets will soon be lost in the Sun's glare, so check them out tonight!
