The Xavier Musketeers are expected to headline the 2023 Continental Tire Main Event along with San Diego State, Washington and a yet-to-be-determined fourth team at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, according to a report via Twitter from Rocco Miller.
The event's official website says it is scheduled for Nov. 17-19. XU reportedly is scheduled to open the season against Robert Morris less than two weeks earlier.
Jon Rothstein reported for FanDuel last October that the event's headlining teams would be SDSU, Washington, Minnesota and Pitt. He reported Thursday via Twitter that Minnesota will instead host its own multi-team event, and Pitt will instead co-headline the 2023 Preseason NIT at Barclays Center with Baylor, Florida and Oregon State.
XU played in the Continental Tire Las Vegas Invitational in 2017, losing to Arizona State in the championship game. Virginia defeated Illinois in the championship game of last year's event.
The Aztecs, a No. 5 seed in the NCAA tournament, finished last season 32-7, falling to Xavier's Big East rival, UConn, in the championship game in Houston. Their record in the Mountain West was 15-3.
Xavier lost the only meeting it has ever had with SDSU, 79-74, in the 2018 Maui Invitational.
Washington finished last season with a 16-16 record, 8-12 in the Pac-12. The Muskies and Huskies have met twice, with Xavier winning by 16 in 1999 and XU losing by one point to UW in the 1998 NCAA tournament.
