These shoes celebrate Cincinnati and the Flying Pig Marathon

Last week we put out a call for running shoe designs that celebrate the Flying Pig Marathon.

Readers came through with a batch of creative and thoughtful blueprints that celebrate the 26.2-mile tour of the city.

There were odes to chili, the city's distinctive downtown skyline and even the Bengals' Sam Hubbard, who turned in a memorable run of his own earlier this year.

One design, especially, stood out for our judges.

Jean Hodge's trainers feature a pig, ears back with a hopeful smile on its face, flying through a blue sky above the city. The design captures the feeling that a lot of us hope to experience when we sign up for a marathon. The optimism of an unlikely athlete achieving something spectacular.

Our judges loved this design from Jean Hodge of Miamitown. "They look fast," wrote one.

The Miamitown resident will receive a $100 gift card for winning our newsroom vote.
