The Xavier Muskteers are among three finalists for Drew McKenna, a Class of 2024 junior forward from Glenelg Country School in Ellicott City, Maryland, according to a report Wednesday from On3sports' Joe Tipton.
Tipton also reports that a pair of Big East rivals, Butler and Georgetown, are McKenna's other two finalists.
The 6-foot-8 McKenna also has offers from UConn and DePaul, as well as Maryland, Bryant, East Carolina, George Mason, George Washington, Howard, Illinois, New Mexico State, NJIT, Rutgers, Virginia Tech and West Virginia, according to 247sports.com.
Earlier this week, Tipton reported that Xavier is among six finalists for Centerville High School shooting guard Jonathan Powell.
More from Tipton about what McKenna thinks of his finalists:
Georgetown: "What stands out about them is their family. A lot of people say they are about family but it is emphasized because coach Cooley loves his guys."
Butler: "Coach Matta is a legendary coach. He specializes with big wings and guards so that attracts me."
Xavier: "They are a winning program and really know what they are doing. He has produced a lot of pros in my position."
On3sports' Jamie Shaw wrote in April about McKenna's interest in XU and WVU:
Xavier: "Their intensity stands out for me. They play well, they play together as a team, and they play a lot of defense. They're just a hard-nosed, physical team. I talk with coach (Sean) Miller and the assistant coach Adam Cohen a lot. Our relationship is pretty good, and they’re excited about recruiting me.
"They play with a lot of wings and big guards. I think I could fit in perfectly there because I'm able to shoot, stretch the floor, dribble, and make decisions with the ball."
West Virginia: "They play a lot of defense, and I like that. Their coach, DerMarr Johnson, is from the same area as me. It was cool to hear from him; he's a legend where I'm from. Being from Prince George County, and hearing about him all my life, when he finally texted me, I was shocked. I showed my dad and everyone. It's great."
