IT HAPPENED IN MIDDLETOWN AT AN APARTMENT COMPLEX ALONG PARK LANE, WLWT NEWS 5 AS RACHEL HIRSHMAN JOINS US LIVE NOW FROM MIDDLETOWN WITH THE NEW INFORMATION WE’RE LEARNING TONIGHT. HI, RACHEL. WELL, MIKE, INJURY THAT SUSPECT WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL IN CRITICAL CONDITION. THAT’S ACCORDING TO OHIO’S BUREAU OF CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION. NOW, AT THIS HOUR, YOU CAN STILL SEE THE POLICE ARE HERE TRYING TO SIFT THROUGH WHAT EXACTLY UNFOLDED TONIGHT ON PARK LANE. A SWAT STANDOFF IN MIDDLETOWN ENDS WITH ONE PERSON SHOT. ALL OF THIS TAKING PLACE IN THIS QUIET RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOOD ON PARK LANE. IT’S JUST QUIET. THIS I DON’T SEE NOTHING. I DON’T FEEL SAFE OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT. IT’S VERY QUIET. NEIGHBORS NEARBY STAYED INSIDE WATCHING THIS UNFOLD. THIS IS VIEWER VIDEO AND PICTURES OF THE SWAT TEAM OUTSIDE THIS APARTMENT BEFORE OPENING FIRE. IT’S THE FIRST TIME THAT SOMETHING LIKE THIS AND WE’RE JUST GOING OUT THE BUS ON THE ROAD, LIKE COMING OUT FROM MY PSYCHOLOGY. YOU’LL SEE THE COPS OUT HERE WITH MIDDLETOWN. POLICE SAY THE SUSPECT HAD ONGOING PROBLEMS WITH THE BUTLER COUNTY CRISIS TEAM. THE DEPARTMENT’S SPECIAL RESPONSE TEAM WAS LATER CALLED IN, BUT THE SUSPECT FIRED AT THE OFFICERS. MIDDLETOWN POLICE CHIEF DAVID BERG SAYS THE SUSPECT WAS HIT MULTIPLE TIMES IN THE FOOT AND SHIN. A SPOKESPERSON FOR THE OHIO BUREAU OF CRIMINAL INVESTIGATIONS SAYS THE DEPARTMENT WAS THEN CALLED TO THE SCENE. THAT PERSON WAS IN CRITICAL CONDITION WHEN THEY WERE TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL. THIS IS THE SECOND OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING IN MIDDLETOWN IN TWO MONTHS. THIS DEPARTMENT DOES NOT HAVE BODY WORN CAMERAS, SOMETHING THE PRESIDENT OF THE FRONT LINE ADVISERS GROUP DOES NOT THINK WILL IMPACT THE INVESTIGATION. THEY ARE VERY PROFESSIONAL AGENCY. AND I THINK THAT IT REALLY SHOULDN’T SHOULDN’T BRING ABOUT ANY QUESTIONING IN THIS CASE. I THINK ALL THE ALL THE FACTS IN THIS WILL SHOW THAT THE MIDDLETOWN POLICE DID EXACTLY WHAT THEY HAD TO DO IN THIS CASE. INVESTIGATORS ARE COMBING THROUGH THE SCENE AS NEIGHBORS TRY TO UNDERSTAND WHAT EXACTLY TOOK PLACE. I’M JUST SURPRISED. I WAS TRYING TO FIGURE OUT, OH, WE’LL HAVE A HAIR. Butler County grand jury: No indictment in Middletown standoff


A Butler County Grand Jury has opted not to indict a police officer after an April standoff and shootout with a suspect on Park Lane in Middletown."Having questioned all pertinent investigative witnesses involving an officer involved shooting that occurred on April 24, 2023 in Middletown, Butler County, Ohio, and having considered all of the facts in the case presented to it by the Prosecuting Attorney of Butler County, Ohio, The Grand Jury has returned no indictment," court documents said.Law enforcement responded to the Park Lane home in the afternoon after a well-being check call was made.The encounter between a male resident of the home and police escalated, and gunfire was exchanged between police and the man. The man was shot in the foot and the shin and was transported to the hospital in critical condition.No officers were hurt in the incident.

The encounter between a male resident of the home and police escalated, and gunfire was exchanged between police and the man. The man was shot in the foot and the shin and was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

No officers were hurt in the incident.
