Middletown police are mourning the loss of retired K9, Aki, who served with the department from 2013-2019.Officials say Aki assisted patrol units in locating and seizing narcotics and apprehending suspects while also participated in public demonstrations and played fetch at city parks with kids during his shift.According to the department, Aki and his partner, Officer Caito, won numerous awards and recognition for their work, most notably, the 2016 Patrol Catch of the year for his work in helping to track a suspect involved in shooting two students at Madison High School.
