Brandon Smith, left, was one of four CovCath bass fishers who did well in the postseason.

Covington Catholic continued its recent strong success in the KHSAA state bass fishing tournament this weekend at Kentucky Lake in Calvert City.

The CovCath duo of Andrew Worrall and Phoenix Parks finished 18th out of 87 boats in the two-day competition.

They caught seven fish out of the maximum allowed 10 (five per day), totaling 19 pounds, 2 ounces.

It is the third year in a row and fourth out of the last six that the Colonels had a top-20 state finisher.

CovCath’s Brandon Smith and Joe Bezold finished 55th in the state.

Smith and Bezold had one of those high finishes at state in recent years. In the regional tournament, they finished in third place out of 150 boats. Worrall and Parks finished 13th.

Grant County’s Luke Herald and Kullen Fryman finished 31st in the state with six fish totaling 14 pounds, 15 ounces.
