The Cincinnati Reds launched their Nike City Connect uniform campaign Saturday morning, and fans got their first look at the jerseys the team is scheduled to wear for the first time this Friday, May 19, at Great American Ball Park during a game against the New York Yankees.
The Reds will be the 18th Major League Baseball team to debut City Connect uniforms. Earlier this month, the Seattle Mariners became the 17th.
The uniforms include black Nike jerseys and pants accented by bright red piping, jersey lettering and Stance socks.
A black New Era cap features the new stylized "C" logo.
The Reds Team Shop at GABP is selling the City Connect collection through Friday. Apparel is available on MLB Shop's official MLB City Connect collection.
The Reds announced that players will wear the Nike City Connect uniforms for every Friday home game for the rest of the 2023 season.
Per the team's release, Reds City Connect uniform highlights include the following: "The city nickname ('CINCY') is proudly displayed across the chest of the jersey. Because 'CINCY' is more than just a nickname. It's a vibe. A personality. The classic 'C' logo receives a modernized look and appears on both the cap and sleeve. It has evolved into a more edgy and bold badge of honor - symbolizing the destiny of today’s Reds. 'Juncta Juvant' is Cincinnati's motto: Strength in Unity. Just as this team is stronger together, so are the people and communities who rep this great city. And the inclusion of the Buckeye leaf serves as a beacon, bringing together fans of Reds Country beyond just the 513."
Saturday's tweets from the Reds about the collection:
On Monday, the Reds tweeted video of starting pitcher Hunter Greene and infielder Jonathan India appearing to check out the jerseys for the first time.
Nike vowed to work with each MLB team to create a City Connect uniform expressing the personality and communities of the city in which the team plays home games.
The Reds and Fanatics will host a City Connect event next Saturday (May 20) from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Findlay Market. Fans will be able to enjoy live music, food, drinks, activities for kids and special appearances by Reds legends.
