POLICE NOW SAY THE VICTIM WAS FROM A WELL KNOWN CINCINNATI BUSINESS FAMILY. THANKS FOR JOINING US HERE AT NOON. I’M STEPHEN COLBERT. AND I’M LACEY ROBERTS THROUGH MULTIPLE SOURCES HAS CONFIRMED THAT THE MAN SHOT AND KILLED WAS 70 YEAR OLD MICHAEL SWEENEY, WHO WORKED IN THE AUTOMOBILE INDUSTRY FOR MORE THAN 40 YEARS. NOW, POLICE SAY THAT HE DIED AFTER BEING SHOT IN THE HEAD AND NECK WHILE DRIVING ON I-75 NEAR MITCHELL AVENUE AT ABOUT 830 SATURDAY NIGHT. IT LED TO A CRASH SHUTTING DOWN THE HIGHWAY FOR HOURS. WE’RE TOLD SWEENEY DIED A FEW DAYS AFTER BEING RUSHED TO THE HOSPITAL. SO HE WAS IN A NISSAN ALTIMA WITH TWO WOMEN AGES 45 AND 57. ALL NAMES WERE REDACTED ON THAT POLICE REPORT. INVESTIGATORS SAY THE DRIVER TOOK OFF IN WHAT COULD BE A SILVER FORD TAURUS, CHEVY OR NISSAN SEDAN. MICHAEL SWEENEY’S FUNERAL SERVICE IS SET FOR SATURDAY ST XAVIER HIGH SCHOOL. SWEENEY’S FORMER HIGH SCHOOL RELEASED A STATEMENT. IT READS IN PART, MICHAEL SWEENEY WAS A MEMBER OF THE SAINT XAVIER CLASS OF 1971. HIS TRAGIC DEATH REMINDS US THAT EVERY DAY OF HUMAN LIFE IS PRECIOUS AND SHOULD BE A PRIORITY. SAINT XAVIER HIGH SCHOOL COMMUNITY IS SADDENED TO HEAR OF HIS LOSS AND, QUOTE, A MAJOR HIGHWAY WAS SHUT DOWN FOR HOURS AFTER A DEADLY CRASH IN GRANT COUNTY, KENTUCKY, LAST NIGHT. STATE POLICE TELL US TWO CARS COLLIDED ON U.S. 25 JUST SOUTH OF WILLIAMSTOWN. WE’RE TOLD PARTS OF U.S. 25 WERE SHUT DOWN UNTIL AT LEAST MIDNIGHT. WE’RE WORKING TO LEARN IF THERE ARE ANY OTHER INJURIES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS CRASH AND WE’RE LEARNING THE NAME OF A PEDESTRIAN WHO DIED AFTER BEING HIT BY A SEMI-TRUCK ON THE INTERSTATE YESTERDAY. THE CORONER IDENTIFIED THE VICTIM AS A 27 YEAR OLD JOHN ABBOTT SMITH, AND IT HAPPENED ON I-75 NEAR EDGERTON CHARLES, AROUND SIX YESTERDAY MORNING. POLICE SAY A SEMI-TRUCK DRIVER CALLED 911 SAYING HE HIT ABBY SMITH. THE INTERSTATE WAS CLOSED FOR MORE THAN A 5 HOURS AS POLICE LOCATED. AND BREAKING NEWS OUT OF NORTH CAROLINA. CREWS ARE BATTLING A LARGE FIRE AT A CONSTRUCTION SITE IN CHARLOTTE. YOU CAN SEE THOSE FLAMES AND SMOKE BILLOWING FROM THE BUILDING. A FIVE ALARM FIRE IS SO INTENSE, METAL BEAMS COULD BE SEEN AND HEARD COLLAPSING. THIS ALL HAPPENING NEAR ONE OF THE CITY’S LARGE SHOPPING MALLS. AND RESIDENTS ARE URGED TO STAY AWAY. THE GOOD NEWS IS NO INJURIES HAVE BEEN REPORTED. WYOMING HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT FACING ALLEGATIONS THAT HE RAPED A TEAMMATE ON THE SCHOOL’S J.V. BASEBALL TEAM IS BACK HOME. ONLY WLWT WAS IN COURT AS HE FACED A JUDGE VIRTUALLY YESTERDAY. WE’RE NOT IDENTIFYING HIM BECAUSE HE’S A MINOR. INVESTIGATORS SAY THE STUDENT AND TWO OTHER CLASSMATES KIDNAPED A TEAMMATE WITH AUTISM LAST MONTH AT WYOMING HIGH SCHOOL AND ASSAULTED HIM. BUT THE HEARING WAS LESS ABOUT THE CRIMES THE 15 YEAR OLD IS CHARGED WITH AND MORE ABOUT WHERE YOU SHOULD STAY AS THE CASE AGAINST HIM UNFOLDS. BUT THE ATTORNEYS SAYING HIS CLIENT HAS HAD NO DISCIPLINARY ISSUES UNTIL LAST MONTH’S INCIDENT. SO HE HAS BEEN RAISED TO BE RESPECTFUL. HE HAS BEEN AN ATHLETE SINCE HIS HAS BEEN THE AGE OF SIX. HE WAS FIRST HONORS AND RECEIVE THE PRINCIPAL’S AWARD. THOSE ACCOLADES DID NOT PREVENT POLICE FROM CHARGING THE 15 YEAR OLD WITH ONE COUNT OF RAPE. THREE COUNTS OF KIDNAPING AND ONE COUNT OF HAZING. THE JUDGE ULTIMATELY DECIDED TO RELEASE THE TEENAGER TO HIS PARENTS, BUT HE DOES HAVE TO WEAR AN ELECTRIC MONITORING DEVICE AND CAN’T LEAVE HIS HOUSE FOR ANY REASON. HE ALSO CAN’T HAVE ANY CONTACT WITH THE VICTIM ONLY ON A SCHOOL BUS DRIVER IN MIDDLETOWN HAS BEEN FIRED AFTER SHARING SOCIAL MEDIA MESSAGES WITH A 12 YEAR OLD GIRL LAST SATURDAY, THE SIXTH GRADER’S MOTHER SAYS HER DAUGHTER MENTIONED SHE HAD BEEN SNAPCHATTING WITH HER BUS DRIVER. THE MOTHER THEN CONTINUED MESSAGING WITH THE DRIVER WHILE PRETENDING TO BE HER DAUGHTER. SHE SAYS THE BUS DRIVER CONTINUED TO SEND DISTURBING MESSAGES AND SELFIES OF HIMSELF CALLING A 12 YEAR OLD GIRL HIS QUOTE, FAVORITE. THE DISTRICT RELEASED A STATEMENT SAYING, QUOTE, MIDDLETOWN CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT CONTRACTS WITH PETERMAN FOR BUS SERVICE, AN INCIDENT INVOLVING A PETERMAN BUS DRIVER AND INAPPROPRIATE COMMUNICATION WAS REPORTED AND WAS INVESTIGATED BY PETERMAN. THAT BUS DRIVER WAS SUSPENDED AND ULTIMATELY TERMINATED AFTER AN INVESTIGATION. CINCINNATI POLICE OFFICER WILL AVOID JAIL TIME AFTER PLEADING GUILTY TO DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE IN CLAREMONT COUNTY. OHIO STATE TROOPERS PULLED OVER JUSTIN SHIELDS ON 275 LAST MONTH. YESTERDAY. SHIELD PLEADED GUILTY TO FAILING TO MAINTAIN CONTROL COULD BE UNDER COURT SUPERVISION FOR TWO YEARS AND WILL HAVE TO ATTEND A DUI PROGRAM.
