Shortly after his second-seeded UCLA Bruins completed an NCAA tournament first-round rout of No. 15 UNC Asheville, former Cincinnati Bearcats head coach Mick Cronin told CBS sideline reporter Dana Jacobson that he doesn't expect his sister to support his team in its second-round game against Northwestern because she went to school there.
"I know my sister is gonna be rooting for Northwestern because she graduated from Northwestern," Cronin told Jacobson. "So that's not a good thing. So I know what you're gonna do. That's not good. But anyway, look, Chris (Collins) is a great coach. He's done an unbelievable job there. It's not the easiest of jobs. They've had a great year. I know Boo Buie is a great player. I saw their Indiana game - they beat them at home. But hey, it's one at a time. So we'll watch film, get ready."
The Cincinnati native and former La Salle High School standout was an assistant coach for the Bearcats from 1996 to 2001 and UC's head coach from 2006 to 2019.
Earlier this month, Cronin said he didn't know who ESPN Bracketologist Joe Lunardi is after Lunardi suggested that UCLA wouldn't be a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament unless it won the Pac-12 tournament. The Bruins lost the tournament final to Arizona, 61-59.
