Mother accused of abandoning child to face charges in Ohio after waiving extradition
The mother accused of abandoning her young son, Thomas, who has autism, on the side of the road in Colerain Township, will be brought back to Ohio to face charges.Heather Adkins, 32, signed papers waiving her extradition, according to her public defender in Kentucky. Once in Ohio, she will face an endangerment charge and a new felony charge of kidnapping. Adkins is accused of abandoning her young son, Thomas, who has autism on the side of the road Feb. 18 in Colerain Township.Adkins was arrested days later in Georgetown, Kentucky. Police said she was at a gas station acting strange when they picked her up.They didn't know she was wanted on a charge in Hamilton County, but they arrested her on an old warrant, for failing to pay a fine.Adkins' mother said her daughter takes medication for depression and thought she was clean when it came to drug use.But police say prior to her arrest on Saturday, Adkins was at Georgetown hospital being treated for heroin and meth.Thomas is currently living with a foster family. Adkins' other two children are at a family friend's house in Tennessee.
