SOUTHGATE, Ky. — A woman was killed in a single-vehicle crash on I-471 at U.S. 27 Thursday morning.
According to the Southgate Police Department, the driver lost control of the vehicle after it had crossed the U.S. 27 overpass, which was covered in ice. The car crossed all three lanes and struck the guardrail before eventually landing on its top.
The male driver was checked at the scene but refused transportation to the hospital. The female passenger appeared to have suffered a head injury and died at the scene. The department said the SIRT Team is continuing to investigate the crash.
The crash was one of dozens that shut down most of the highways and major roadways in the Tri-State.
The Norwood Lateral was also shut down for several hours after accidents occurred in the east and westbound lanes.
WCPO's traffic anchor Sina Gebre-Ab tweeted about at least a dozen crashes throughout the morning commute.
Rain moving into the area this afternoon may cause more problems on the road. Freezing rain is expected to fall north of the Ohio River and could cause more icy road conditions.
