This week, two restaurants in Cincinnati have notified customers they would be closed for a day while filming an episode of the Food Network's "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives."
If you've seen the show, host Guy Fieri – with his frosted tips, sunglasses and iconic red Camaro – typically stops at three locations to meet the owners and try the food. We already know of two: Blue Ash Chili on Wednesday and Taste of Belgium at The Banks on Friday, but that leaves a third, should he do an entire episode devoted to Cincinnati.
Where Guy's been:'Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives' history in Cincinnati
It's happened before. In 2014, an episode titled "One Street Wonders" was dedicated to Cincinnati cuisine and featured Taste of Belgium, Senate and Bakersfield, all in Over-the-Rhine.
Enter this cryptic post from Senate. Thursday, the restaurant posted it will be closed for lunch on Saturday but will reopen at 5 p.m. for dinner service. Which sounds quite familiar to the announcement posts from the other two spots, just without any "DDD" mention.
The Over-the-Rhine Senate location closed in 2021, but the Blue Ash spot remains open and aligns with the other new locations of previous restaurants Fieri has visited. The Taste of Belgium location at The Banks is newly opened since Guy's visit to the OTR spot, and Blue Ash Chili moved down the road from its original location in 2021. The Senate's "other location" story fits right on theme.
Blue Ash Chili was previously featured on the show May 31, 2010, in an episode titled "Comfort Food with Attitude," along with Culhane's Irish Pub in Atlantic Beach, Florida and Jax at the Tracks in Truckee, California.
