It was a season of change for the Cincinnati Bengals in 2021 with the arrival of the Bengals Ring of Honor and a new game day atmosphere tradition.
Things seemed to have worked out, because the season is ending in February 2022.
The Bengals new era included the first Ring of Honor entrants, Paul Brown, Anthony Munoz, Ken Riley and Ken Anderson during the only primetime game the Bengals had, which was against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
But that's not the only thing that was added. In August, the Bengals unveiled a new game day tradition.
"The Ruler of the Jungle."
James "JB" Brown was the first Ruler of the Jungle before the Miami Dolphins preseason game on Aug. 29. The Ruler of the Jungle sits on a throne.
Here's how the Bengals described it:
"The ceremony takes place from a jungle-themed throne and features the Ruler of The Jungle leading the crowd in the Who Dey chant right before kickoff to create an energetic gameday environment."
But the first "Ruler" for the regular season? That would be the first Bengal.
Johnson was the No. 2 pick in the 168 draft. The offensive lineman from Tennessee played with the Bengals from 1968-1979 and started 136 games. He made the Pro Bowl as a rookie and spent his entire career with Bengals.
