Ohio High School Athletic Association girls high school basketball tournament games begin this week just as the final state media rankings have been released.
Not surprisingly at 21-0, Mount Notre Dame completes a wire-to-wire run as the Division I top team. The Cougars led by Notre Dame signee KK Bransford open tournament play Wednesday night at Princeton against Oak Hills.
Princeton's Vikings received two first-place votes and finish at No. 5 overall behind junior Solé Williams who led the Greater Miami Conference at 23.8 points per game. Mason finished tied with Princeton for the GMC title at 15-1 with 6-foot-6 inch Kyla Oldacre hitting at 15 points per game and leading the league in blocks. Oldacre will play next season for the Miami Hurricanes.
Princeton starts tournament play Saturday against Western Hills at Lakota East. Mason faces Anderson Wednesday night at Harrison.
Eastern Cincinnati Conference champion Winton Woods finished just out of top 10 at No. 11 behind Oregon-bound Chance Gray. Gray was the league's top scorer at 26 per game.
In Division III, Purcell Marian received a pair of first-place votes but was No. 3 overall. Freshman Dee Alexander topped the Miami Valley Conference in scoring, assists and field goal percentage for the Cavaliers. Purcell Marian starts the postseason Thursday night in Fairfield against Riverview East.
In Division IV, Cincinnati Country Day closes out the regular campaign with a No. 10 ranking. CCD was second to Purcell Marian in the MVC-Scarlet Division and begins their tournament run Thursday night as the top seed in Monroe against New Miami.
