Heading into the final week of the regular season a few Southwest Ohio boys high school basketball teams have seen some movement in the rankings.
Elder moves up from No. 7 to No. 6. The Panthers defeated La Salle 70-40 Sunday night to go to 5-0 in the Greater Catholic League-South and can finish the season unbeaten in the league with a win over St. Xavier Friday night in The Pit.
Fairfield is tied with Sycamore for the Greater Miami Conference lead (11-2) but fell out of the state top 10 after consecutive losses to Princeton and Sycamore. Speaking of the Aviators, they received votes, as did one-loss Walnut Hills of the Eastern Cincinnati Conference.
Sycamore finishes up with home games against Hamilton and Middletown this week. Walnut Hills is 14-0 in the ECC and is at Little Miami Wednesday and home with second-place Turpin Friday.
In Division II, Woodward jumps from No. 5 to No. 4 after beating Taft for a second time this season to go to 9-0 in the Cincinnati Metro Athletic Conference. Led by high-scoring Paul McMillan IV, the Bulldogs can wrap up a second straight CMAC-Red Division title this week. Woodward hosts Hughes Monday night, is at Shroder Wednesday and back home with Western Hills Friday.
Despite a 9-8 record, Taft is still in Division III's top 10 at No. 9. The Senators have played a schedule full of bigger schools including the Division I No. 2 school Pickerington Central. The Senators have dropped three straight and hope to right the ship at Withrow Tuesday before finishing up at home Friday with Hughes.
