Some UC football fans who were looking forward to watching Jerome Ford compete in the Reese's Senior Bowl learned Sunday that the running back had a very good reason for not playing in it.
A two-hour(ish) Uber ride from Mobile to New Orleans followed by an early-morning flight got Ford to a Tampa, Florida-area hospital in time to see the birth of his daughter Saturday afternoon, per a tweet from Senior Bowl executive director Jim Nagy, who commented on Ford's tweet:
Ford declared for the 2022 NFL Draft in early January, three days after the Bearcats' Cotton Bowl and College Football Playoff semifinal appearance.
Ford and five Bearcat teammates were among top draft prospects working out for the National Team this past week. UC quarterback Desmond Ridder threw two touchdown passes in the team's win.
