Mike Zimmer, ex-Vikings head coach, wants to coach in 2022, per report

Mike Zimmer acknowledges the crowd on Sunday after a 31-17 victory over the Bears in his final game as Vikings head coach.

Mike Zimmer, the former Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator who was the Minnesota Vikings' head coach from 2014 until he was dismissed last month, wants to coach in the NFL in 2022, according to a report Friday via Twitter from ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

Zimmer was on Marvin Lewis' Bengals coaching staff from 2008 to 2013.

Last September, Zimmer reflected on his time in Cincinnati and offered thoughts about the Bengals and quarterback Joe Burrow.

Zimmer left the Bengals in Jan. 2014 to become the Vikings' head coach. His record in eight seasons as Minnesota's head coach - including the postseason - was 74-59-1. Minnesota finished the 2021 season with an 8-9 record.

The Minnesota Vikings announced in July 2020 that they finalized a multi-year contract extension through 2023 with Zimmer as their head coach.
